WAIT

Desperately, helplessly, longingly, I cried.
Quietly, patiently, lovingly God replied.
I pled and I wept for a clue to my fate,
And the Master so gently said, "Child, you must wait!"
"'Wait?', you say, wait!" my indignant reply.
"Lord, I need answers, I need to know why!
Is your hand shortened? Or have you not heard?
By FAITH I have asked, and am claiming your Word.
"My future and all to which I can relate
Hangs in the balance, and you tell me to WAIT?
I'm needing a 'yes,' a go-ahead sign,
Or even a 'no' to which I can resign.
"And Lord, you promised that if we believe
We need but to ask, and we shall receive.
And Lord, I've been asking, and this is my cry
I'm weary of asking! I need a reply!"
Then quietly, softly, I learned of my fate
As my Master replied once again, "You must wait."
So, I slumped in my chair, defeated and taut
And grumbled to God, "So, I'm waiting. . .for what?"
He seemed then to kneel and His eyes wept with mine,
And he tenderly said, "I could give you a sign.
I could shake the heavens, and darken the sun.
I could raise the dead, and cause mountains to run.
All you seek, I could give, and pleased you would be.
You would have what you want--but, you wouldn't know ME.
"You'd not know the depth of my love for each saint;
You'd not know the power that I give to the faint;
You'd not learn to see through the clouds of despair;
You'd not learn to trust just by knowing I'm there;
You'd not know the joy of resting in me
When darkness and silence were all you could see.
"You'd never experience that fullness of love
As the peace of my Spirit descends like a dove;
You'd know that I give and I save. . .(for a start),
But you'd not know the depth of the beat of my heart.
"The glow of my comfort late into the night.
The faith that I give when you walk without sight,
The depth that's beyond getting just what you asked
Of an infinite God, who makes what you have LAST.
"You'd never know, should your pain quickly flee,
What it means that 'My grace is sufficient for thee.'
Yes, your dreams for your loved ones overnight would come true,
But, oh, the loss! if I lost what I'm doing in you!
"So, be silent, my child, and in time you will see
THAT THE GREATEST OF GIFTS IS TO GET TO KNOW ME.
And though oft may my answers seem terribly late,
My wisest of answers is still but to WAIT."

The Reason God Put Me Here

I don't know how to say it, but somehow it seems to me
That maybe we are stationed where God wants us to be.

That the little place I'm filling is the reason for my birth
And just to do the work I do, He sent me down to earth.

If God had wanted otherwise I reckon He'd have made
Me just a little different, Of worse or better grade.

And since God knows and understands all things of land and sea,
I fancy that he placed me here just where he wanted me.

Sometimes I get to thinking, as my labor I review,
That I should like a higher place with greater things to do.

But I come to the conclusion when the envying is stilled,
That the post to which God sent me is the post he wanted filled.

So I plod along and struggle in the hope, when day is through,
That I really am necessary to the things God wants to do.

And there isn't any service I can give which I should scorn,
For it may be just the reason God allowed that I be born.

If Jesus Came to Your House

If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two-
If He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you'd do.
Oh, I know you'd give your nicest room to such an honored guest,
And all the food you'd serve to Him, would be the very best.
And you would keep assuring Him you're glad to have Him there-
That serving Him in your own home is joy beyond compare.
But - when you saw Him coming, would you meet Him at the door
With arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly visitor?
Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in?
Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they'd been?
Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn't heard?
And wish you hadn't uttered that last, loud, nasty word?
Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?
And I wonder - if the Savior spent a day or two with you,
Would you go right on doing the things you always do?
Would you go right on saying the things you always say?
Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?
Would your family conversation keep up its usual pace?
And, would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace?
Would you sing the songs you always sing, and read the books you read,
And let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed?
Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you'd planned to go?
Or would you, maybe, change your plans for just a day or so?
Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends?
Or would you hope they'd stay away until His visit ends?
Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on?
Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?
It might be interesting to know the things that you would do,
If Jesus Christ in person came to spend some time with you.

God is Near

Sometimes when morning lights the sky,
And gladness fills the air,
I feel like telling things to God,
He seems so very near.

Sometimes when flowers are in bloom
And the birds are singing clear,
I feel like singing things to God,
He must be very near.

Sometimes  when the trees are standing tall
With branches in the air,
I feel like saying things to God,
I know He must be there.

Sometimes when daily work is done,
And evening stars appear
I feel like whispering things to God
He is so very near.

Teach Me

Teach me, Father when I pray,
Not to ask for more,
But rather let me give my thanks
For what is at my door.
For food and drink, for gentle
Rain, for sunny skies above,
For home and friends, for peace
And joy, but most of all for love.

Title and Author Unknown

Listen to the angels singing
And the message they are bringing;
Telling once again the story
Of a Savior come from glory.

For Jesus left His home above
To come and show His Father's love.
He came to live, and then to die,
That we might have a home on high.

From heaven, He had come to earth.
And started with a humble birth,
A servant - Savior's life to live,
And in the end, that life to give.

For us, He went into the grave -
And rose again, our lives to save.
For those who trust, our hopes not dim;
We have a home in heaven with Him.
The Difference

I got up early one morning
And rushed right into the day;
I had some much to accomplish
That I didn't have time to pray.

Problems just tumbled about me,
And heavier came each task.
"Whydoesn't God help me?" I wondered.
He answered,  "You didn't ask."

I wanted to see joy and beauty,
But the day toiled on, gray and bleak;
I wondered why God didn't show me,
He said, "But you didn't seek."

I tried to come into God's presence;
I used all my keys at the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"My child, you didn't knock."

I woke up early this morning,
And paused before entering the day;
I  had so much to accomplish
That I had to take time to pray.

The Singing of a Hymn

1. We sing "Onward Christian Soldiers", and wait to be drafted into His service.
2. We sing "Sweet Hour of Prayer", and are content with a quarter of a minute a day.
3. We sing "Oh, For a Thousand Tongues", and don't use the one we have.
4. We sing "There Shall Be Showers of Blessings", but come in when it rains.
5. We sing "Blest Be The Tie That Binds", but let the least little offense sever it.
6. We sing "Serve the Lord With Gladness", and gripe about all we have to do.
7. We sing "We're Marching to Zion", but fail to march to Sunday school and church.
8. We sing "I love to Tell the Story", and never mention it at all.
9. We sing "Cast Thy Burden on the Lord", and then worry ourselves sick.
10. We sing "The Whole Wide World for Jesus", and never invite our next door neighbor to church.
11. We sing "Oh Day of Rest and Gladness", and wear ourselves out traveling, cutting the grass, or playing golf on Sunday.

Remind Me God

Dear God, When I am lonely and
Perhaps feel despair
Let not my ailing heart forget
That You hear every prayer.
Remind me that no matter what,
I do or fail to do,
There still is hope for me as long
As I have faith in You.
Let not my eyes be blinded by
Some folly I commit,
But help me to regret my wrong
And to make up for it.
Inspire me to put my fears
Upon a hidden shelf,
And in the future never to
Be sorry for myself.
Give me the restful sleep I need
Before another dawn,
And bless me in the morning with
The strength and courage to go on.

Heaven's Grocery Store

I was walking down life's highway, a long time ago
One day I saw the sign that read, "Heaven's Grocery Store."
As I got a little closer, the door came open wide,
And when I came to myself, I was standing inside.
I saw a host of angels, they were standing everywhere,
One handed me a basket, and said, "My child, shop with care."
Everything a Christian needed was in that grocery store,
And all you couldn't carry, you come come back the next day for more.
First I got some Patience, Love was int he same row,
Further down was Understanding, you need that wherever you go.
I got a box of Wisdom, a bag or two of Faith,
I couldn't miss the Holy Ghost, for it was all over the place.
I shopped to get some Strength and Courage, to help me run the race.
By them my basket was getting full, but I remembered I needed some Grace.
I didn't forget Salvation, for Salvation is free,
So I tried to get enough of that, To save both you and me.
When I started to go up to the counter, to pay my grocery bill,
For I thought I had  enough of everything, to my my Master's will.
As I went up the aisle, I saw Prayer, and I just had to put that in.
For I knew when I stepped outside, I would run into sin.
Peace and Joy were plentifull, they were on the last shelf,
Song and Praises were hanging near, so I just helped myself.
Then I sadi to the angel, "How much do I owe?"
He just smiled and said, "My child, Jesus paid your bill,"
A long time ago.

The TV Is My Shepherd

The TV is my shepherd
My spiritual life shall want.
He maketh me to sit down and
Do nothing for His name's sake.
Because it requireth all my time.
It keepeth me from doing my
Duty as a Christian
Because it presenteth so
Many god shows I must see.
It restoreth my knowledge of the
Things of the world.
It keepeth me form the study of
God's Word.
It leadeth me in the paths of
Failing to attend the evening
Worship services and doing nothing
In the kingdom of God.
Ye, though I live to be a hundred,
I shall keep viewing my TV
As long as it will work for it
Is my closest companion.
Its sounds and its pictures, they
Comfort me.
It presenth entertainment before
Me and keepeth me from doing
Important things with my family.
It fills my head with ideas which
Differ from those set forth in the
Word of God.
Surely, no good thing  will come of
my life, because my TV offereth
Me no good time to do the will of
God.
Thus, though I dwell in the place
Of the redeemed who have been
Washed int he blood of the lamb,
I will let the souls around
Me slip into hell forever.

BACK

I establish myself today in:
The POWER of God to guide me,
The MIGHT of God to uphold me,
The WISDOM of God to teach me,
The EYE of God to watch over me,
The EAR of God to hear me,
The WORD of God to speak to me,
The HAND of God to protect me,
The WAY of God lie before me,
The SHIELD of God to shelter me,
The HOSTS of God to defend me,
Christ WITH me,
Christ BEFORE me,
Christ BEHIND me,
Christ WITHIN me,
Christ BENEATH me,
Christ ABOVE me,
Christ at my RIGHT,
Christ at my LEFT,
Christ in BREADTH,
Christ in LENGTH,
Christ in HEIGHT,
Christ in the HEART of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the MOUTH of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the ear of every man who who hears me,
Confident in Christ.
